Kane Area Food Pantry News

The Kane Area Food Pantry is the result of the generosity of churches, clubs, school, businesses and individuals of the Kane Area, as well as the McKean County Commissioners.  The monthly distribution is for people of the Kane Area School District whose income is below the USDA and TEFAP guidelines.  About thirty (30) volunteers serve each month.  The monthly distribution is normally the fourth Friday of the month, except in November and December when it can be the third Friday. The amount of food distributed to a person each month is determined by the size of the family.  A family is normally all those living in the same household.  All income in a household is added together to determine eligibility.  You must fill out an income form the first time you receive food and annually thereafter.  Any change in family size or income is to be reported immediately.  Donations and contributions of food and money to the Kane Area Food Pantry from the local Kane churches have dropped off considerably over the past year.  The monthly distribution averages over 90 families with over 200 persons, half of these are elderly or children.  A suggestion of donations includes, but not limited to, canned vegetables, fruit, soups, fruit juices, pork & beans,  canned meat, tuna, salmon, etc.;  jars of peanut butter, jelly, condiments, spaghetti sauce;  boxes of puddings, gelatins, cereal, pastas of all kinds, cake mixes, pancake mix.  The Food Pantry cannot accept any home-canned food nor any fresh, perishables.  Qualifications for the distribution are set by the USDA and the Emergency Food Assistance Program of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
