01/09/23 Celebrating the Feast of the Child Jesus, a.k.a. Santo Niño, SINULOG

This coming Sunday, January 15 is a big celebration in the Catholic Church in the Philippines, as we celebrate the Feast of the Child Jesus, also known as Sto. Nino. In view of this celebration, we will have for the first time in our parish a “Sinulog” presentation after the 12noon mass outside the church.

“Sinulog is the ritual prayer-dance honoring Señor Santo Niño or the Child Jesus. An image of the Child Jesus is said to be the baptismal gift the Portuguese conquistador Ferdinand Magellan gave to Hara Amihan (Humanay) of Zebu (now Cebu) in April 1521. The image, believed to be miraculous, is housed at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño in downtown Cebu City.”

Now, I would like to make this appeal to our brethren of different cultures, that, if you also have a special Catholic celebration or tradition in your country, please feel free to approach me so we can also celebrate as one community in our parish.

My apology for this late notice. Hoping for your kind understanding.

Thank you,
Fr Dante
